Be mindful of your faucet use

Water is such an important ingredient in almost all dishes and in the cooking activity as a whole. Our first tip is to handle your faucet properly by avoiding the accidental banging of the tap with your hands, cooking utensils, pan and the like.

Although faucets are quite durable, if you keep hitting it every time you cook, some components inside might get damaged. Be mindful as well that you turn the faucet off when not in use so that you can protect it from being worn out so easily.

Regulate the grease that gets drained in the sink

When using cooking oil, avoid disposing them on the sink after cooking. Try to contain the used oil in a container in order to avoid causing a grease build up in your drain and drain pipes. Although spilling the used oil on the drain is the most efficient way to go about it when cooking, this can harm your plumbing component.

Use a drain for cooking

The same can be said about the meat particles that other ingredients that you use for cooking. Instead of carelessly spilling them all on the sink drain, try to use the drain specifically made for cooking to filter meat and food particles when spilling content on the sink. Otherwise, your sink drain may experience complicated or heavy clogging that requires the help of a skilled plumbing fixture.

Place a small rag on the counter

Observe cleanliness when cooking by placing a small damp rag on top of the counter so you can easily wipe away grease and other liquid ingredients sitting on the counter. Dispose them the right way and avoid putting them into the sink and down to the drain.

Install a grease trap

A grease trap works by separating water from the grease with a mechanism that slows down the hot greasy water, cooling it down for a while, and floating the semi solid grease on top of the trap. This grease trap can be helpful in protecting your kitchen sink drain from clogging.

A grease trap is often used for commercial applications such as restaurants and cafes, but if you want to preserve your own residential plumbing system, feel free to install one at home. The installation is pretty easy, but it will be best to let an expert handle it.

Remove big food particles after cooking

When you have cooked your dish and you’ve finally enjoyed it with your loved ones, don’t let a few hours pass by without going to the kitchen sink. Clean the whole sink thoroughly and get the food particles that can potentially clod your drain. Using a glove, scoop them and dispose them in the trash bin.

Some homeowners put a small trash bin right on top of the kitchen counter for convenient disposal of any dirt and trash from their cooking activity.
