The enduring magic of Disney is such a powerful, all pervading thing, it’s nigh impossible to imagine our childhoods without it. Our first memories of a Disney movie may be from the cinema, on TV with family at home, a DVD at a friend’s house. We dress up as Belle for our parties, share Mickey Mouse birthday cakes, collect figurines from The World of Miss Mindy Disney, sing our favourite songs from The Lion King.

Imagine a world without Donald Duck or Goofy. Elsa had us singing Let It Go; Cruella de Vil had us hiding behind sofas; Baloo had us tapping our feet; Buzz Lightyear had us at ‘To infinity and beyond.’ Woody et al even helped change animation itself. The charisma of Disney’s characters stretches far and wide. But with so many incredible characters to choose from, which are the most popular?

Here are our top 5 animated Disney characters of all time:

5. Baloo, The Jungle Book

Disney’s take on Rudyard Kipling’s famous creation, Baloo, was first introduced to us in 1967, as voiced by Phil Harris. The character was again brought to us in 2016, this time in brand spanking new CGI and with Bill Murray acting the part. Soon he’ll be re-imagined once more by Andy Serkis. Baloo’s got rhythm, he’s got class, he’s got a heart of gold.

4. Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty

If there have been more menacing villains among Disney’s creations, we can’t think of them. If there have been more stunningly imagined and realised characters, we know of them not. Beautifully, deliciously performed by Eleanor Audley in the 1959 Disney original, audiences were left in no doubt that this was an evil fairy to be reckoned with. Some decades later, Angelina Jolie attempted to reprise the role, this time in the eponymously named 2014 Disney title that centred on the magical baddie’s backstory. Jolie’s performance was a success, as was the film, but utter the name Maleficent, and it’ll always be Audley’s version that we think of first.

3.  Woody, Toy Story

The release of Toy Story heralded a new age in feature-length movie animation. Not only was the computer animation entirely groundbreaking, but the characters and story were just so well written. Despite all the bluster, backpack, gadgets and pyrotechnics from Buzz Lightyear, Woody is the undeniable hero of the story. Tom Hanks gave Woody so much personality, and almost made him human. With Woody, you are in the presence of a lanky, floppy cowboy that, while by no means perfect, is always loyal, brave and incomparably charming. If only all our friends were as reliable and loveable as Woody.

2. Dory, Finding Nemo

Ellen DeGeneres’s Dory, as well as highly forgetful, is silly, thoughtful, creative, determined and hilarious. Frankly, there are few characters put to the big screen that compare, so well written is this regal blue tang fish.

1. Genie, Aladdin

It could have been Dumbo, it could have been Mulan, it could have been Grumpy, but it’s Genie. Why? Simply because Robin Williams’s Genie is untouchably hilarious. When Genie hit cinemas in 1992’s Aladdin, it was the first time we’d experienced so much energy, improvisation and sheer, unleashed comedy in animation. Williams was given the freedom to go wild, and boy did he.

Knowledge is always very critical, and I have always been intrigued by what happens in that part of the world wondering there has to be more than just the poor rhetorics you hear over and over on media. Heard about this from one of my kid’s friend and was going to check it out.

Having been in the media publishing business for 22 years, I know committing to TV format and movies at the same time is a difficult task for Big companies like Sling or Hulu both of which I own an account. But this company, Entertale, is proving a robust African institution with its vision of being the future of African TV.

Africa is chasing the world and very slow at it. Linear TV is still a huge deal over there, but with the most populated number of youth and quick adaptation to technology, the gamble might be the right one for the social TV network. Over two decades, we have seen Television grew as a medium and the rise of shows that can compete with or surpass any film regarding narrative complexity and visuals. But almost no one watches television in 2018; they watch TV while they check their email, or update their Facebook, or play Candy Crush and this is where Entertale will flourish. Also check these websites for watching unblocked full movies for free.

The more tale one consumes on the platform; the more one becomes convinced they are being designed specifically for this type of audience in mind and also for someone like me. The company knows the direction young generation consumption is going to play – our iPads at the hotel or the road, home to families with wandering eyes, and not in darkened cinema free of diversions.

Some of the TV channels are from youtube but who cares really and how is that a big deal as it is the same channels and the problem of easy discovery is solved. “You will see a few things you will enjoy, every time” one must concede. “and it’s an addition to what I have – a good one indeed. And if you think I exaggerate, I only ask you to try it.”

If the $8 million covers are by any chance is true, by the end of this calendar year, Entertale.com will have 250 movies, and TV shows added content arsenal available on its live streaming TV service. You could cancel cable, stop going to the movie theater, throw away your television, and still have hours of new content to watch every single night you get back from work all year round and its African!

Gunfights are some of Hollywood’s most favorite scenes to shoot (pun intended). They can bring an end to a villain or introduce conflict into the story without having to rely on needless dialogue and boring exposition.

However, there are a few fictional gunfights in movies that stand apart from the rest. These shootouts have become so memorable, that other movies have referenced or even copied them outright.

Today, you’re going to look at five of some of the most iconic gunfights in fiction based on their awesomeness.

  1. The Matrix: Lobby Gunfight

This fight doesn’t need an introduction. Neo somersaulting between pillars while laying waste to hordes of soldiers draws a “Hell yeah!” out of all of us, and his ability to literally dodge bullets is just icing on the cake.

Every viewer knew something was about to go down the moment he pulled open his jacket to reveal the arsenal of weapons within.

Fun fact: Did you know that the entire scene was made without any CGI? The explosions and gunfire were all done with practical effects.

  1. The Boondock Saints: Hotel Shootout

Two wisecracking Irishmen with a grudge are always going to add a bit of excitement to the mix, but give them rope and anything is possible—even falling through the ceiling and accidentally starting a gunfight with a group of Russian mobsters.

In that scene, the slow spin of the brothers was almost comical as they emptied their matching Beretta 92FS with 9mm ammo on the unsuspecting Russians, but the iconic prayer—and the pause as they cocked their guns—was nothing short of incredible.

  1. Terminator 2: Minigun vs. Cops

In the famous “Do No Harm” scene, the Terminator is given orders to not hurt humans. He follows these orders to a tee in an all-out gunfight where no one gets hurt.

Hard to believe, and completely impossible in reality, but that’s the beauty of fiction—even the impossible is possible.

He pulls it off by targeting the cars instead of the humans, performing pinpoint shots with his minigun and firing thousands of rounds without hitting a single human.

  1. The Alamo: Remember It

John Wayne took part in so many gunfights that it’s hard to choose just one, but the Alamo is one of the most iconic of all time.

Although the Texan defenders would not be victorious that day, no one can deny the intensity of the gunfight or how fiercely the defenders fought to keep the Mexican Army away from the walls of the Alamo. They were too outnumbered to win but put up an unforgettable battle anyway.

While the movie was based on the actual battle during the Mexican-American War, its historical accuracy does have a few holes of fiction in it, which is why the Alamo is on this list.

  1. Tombstone: Gunfight at the OK Corral

Tombstone brings the legend of the OK Corral to the silver screen, and Val Kilmer was stunning as Doc Holliday, one of the lawmen in the shootout where 30 bullets were fired within about 30 seconds.

They were up against the Cowboys, a gang of outlaws terrorizing the town of Tombstone.

The scene was epic in its portrayal of western shootouts, starting with a tense standoff, climaxing into chaos, then ending with a bang. Literally.

Agree With This List?

These are just some of the best gunfights in movies. There are many more movies to watch and more shootouts to witness. And while every list is subjective, you can’t deny to impact these five have on pop culture.

What are your top five iconic gunfights?
