TFT LCD stands for Thin-Film Transistor liquid crystal display. It’s a form of LCD display technology that is used in most flat screen computer monitors and Televisions. TFT LCD uses thin-film translator to check and ensure that the contrasts and addressability are high in quality. In this technology, an individual translator is used to drive each pixel which means the screen would see faster responses.

As we all know, there’s a fast growing competition between most electronic developers. They are all aimed at increasing the prices and getting a higher market command. With so many options available today, it’s something good to be versed with TFT LCD knowledge

TFT V. LCD

The two terms as shown above are used to refer to flat-panel display in electronics including computers and Televisions. To make you really get the difference that exists between an LCD and TFT, you have to note that TFT is generic and at the same time it refers to a kind of LCD.

LCD displays are made using large sheets of transistors. Each of these transistors are controlled self-sufficiently. A TFT refers to the same but now it works like an active matrix where each of the transistors controls an individual pixel.

Which is better: IPS v. TFT Displays?

The two displays have different features and hence, before we jump to the differences, we have to state some of these features. The TFT display is the most common and hence there  must be a reason why most of the manufacturers are going for this. The main reasons for this are because of the lower cost and lower electric consumption.

The only problem with TFT displays is because they foster a poor visibility in direct sunlight. On the other hand, IPS technologies on the are very common with mobile phones and other LCD screens. What this means is that they are smaller but they offer a wider viewing angles, they consume little power and also offers brilliant color image.

The two LCD displays have excellent color displays and they also offer clarity. Though, we have to state that IPS screens offer greater color reproduction. They also offer a better viewing angles. The TFT screens are also bigger and hence they consume relatively high electricity.

For the above reasons, you may be convinced that IPS screen displays are better than TFT, Though, this depends on the device and where you are using the device. TFT screens are very common with larger machines including computers and TV sets. All these are used inside a room and hence it offers a better view.

Sharpness and speed

The common LCD displays lags behind in terms of sharpness and brightness. This makes TFT LCD displays at a better position because they refresh fast enough and at the same time shows motion more quickly.

Power Usage

TFT LCD displays consume more energy as to compare to the regular LCD screens. They also cost more because they have additional features. So they don’t only cost more but also consumes more energy.
