Satguru Baba Hardev Singh: Childhood
Born on February 23, 1954, in Delhi as the grandson of the then Satguru Baba Avtar Singh Ji, Baba Hardev Singh was blessed to get his start in a distinguished family. He was home-schooled for his early-years education and became proficient in Hindi, English, and Mathematics.
He then joined a Rosary state-funded school, where his teachers noticed his natural patience and attentiveness, and in 1963 he moved on to the Yadrendra state public school.
Even in his childhood, his spiritual personality was clear to those closest to him, and he could often be found in his down-time hiking through the mountains and developing his interest in photography.

Baba Hardev Singh joined Delhi University in 1969, and this was where his social-spiritual interests and activities truly started. He started attending regular congregations and services, and he was known for his kindness and humility.
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh: Marriage
He married on November 14, 1975, in Delhi to Savinder Ji, daughter of the devoted saints Shri Gurumukh Singh and Smt. Madan Ji of Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. She was known for being well educated and prepared to take on the duties involved with spritual leadership.
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh: The Assassination of His Father
In 1980 tragedy struck; on April 24 his father, Baba Gubachan Singh Ji, was assassinated by fundamentalist Sikhs, and Baba Hardev Singh’s life was thrown into chaos. Not only did he have to deal with the murder of his father, but he now had to move on without his spiritual leader.
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh: Anointed the New Satguru
Baba Hardev Singh did not call for vengeance, as many would in such circumstances, but instead called for harmony, persistence, and resilience. He was anointed as the new Satguru of the famous Sant Nirankari Mission, where he was able to avoid further violence and inspired those around him to look inward. He told his followers that, “Human beings may well look impressive in their outward worship, but God knows the true state of their minds,” reminding them that it was up to God to judge others for their actions and thoughts.
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh: An Established Leader
It did not take long for Satguru Baba Hardev Singh to become an established leader and grow the Mission not only in India, but all over the world. He went on to travel widely to share inspiring stories and devotionals with others of faith and campaigned for environmental consciousness, enhanced cleanliness, and the planting of new trees.
Baba Hardev Singh reached people in all religions and promoted interfaith harmony throughout the world. His goal was to establish peace within and calm without, in society, and promoted environmental responsibility.
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh: The Blood Donation Drives
It was under Satguru Baba Hardev Singh’s leadership that the Sant Nirankari Mission started its annual blood drives. The first was held in November of 1986 and went on to be held every April 24 to commemorate the loss of his father. His mantra for this blood drive was “blood should flow in veins and not in drains.”
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh: A Life Tragically Cut Short
In 2016, Satguru Baba Hardev Singh was traveling in Canada when he lost his life in a tragic car accident in Montreal. Words of consolation were shared by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President Amit Shah, among his millions of followers all around the world.
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh will forever be remembered as a man who spread faith, love and peace in a world that had violently taken his father from him.
