People who name the specific outcomes they would like to achieve are much more likely to achieve them. People who do not have an outcome named for themselves often wander and end up creating things in their life they would prefer were not there. In this article, Joey Klein, Inner Matrix Systems founder and CEO of  – a personal mastery training system for high achievers – provides five simple yet effective steps to name the outcome you want to create and move towards it.

  1. Map it

The most important thing to do before setting off to achieve a goal or benchmark is to name the result you want to hit. That sounds simple, but few people know and name their vision. It is essential to clearly define what you want to create in your life. Simply naming the outcome you want to create puts your focus on it. Outcomes can be anything – an amount of money you want to make, an emotion you want to feel (like joy or fulfillment), or even a vacation you want to take with your family. Choose an outcome, any outcome, and write it down.

  1. Align it

Once you have named a specific outcome for yourself, the next step is to align your and emotions with your vision. Imagine how you will feel when you have achieved the outcome you named. Close your eyes and imagine what it would feel like to make that amount of money, to be joyful, or to actually go on that vacation. The mind thinks in pictures – imagine what you would be doing, who you would be with, how you would feel, what you would say to make it real for yourself.  It’s important to bring this emotion to the actions you take towards the outcome.

  1. Train it

Like with anything, proper practice is important to get a result. Engage in a consistent routine to train your mind, emotions, and actions to support your vision. Take 10-20 minutes each day to inhale slowly through your nose, count to four or five, hold a beat, and then exhale through your mouth slowly for four to five seconds. Repeat the cycle while focusing on relaxing your body. If you find your mind wanting to focus on particular thoughts, gently bring the focus back to your breathing. Once you feel relaxed, bring your vision into your mind and feel those emotions, then name how you are moving towards that vision.

  1. Reinforce it

After some time, it’s important to take note of how it’s going. Name what’s going well in your journey to fulfill your vision, and commit to continue doing those things. Name the places that could be optimized and how you plan to improve them.

  1. Integrate it

Take what you learned in the previous step and integrate your findings. It’s crucial to continually note where you’re hitting the mark in moving toward the outcome you named and where you could optimize. Measure your progress consistently over time and integrate what you learn to remain agile.
